An on-going challenge is how to become plastic-free in our homes

Plastic Free!

An on-going challenge is how to become plastic-free in our homes and most particularly our kitchens.

This month we have some ideas for plastic-free food storage.

1. Why not change from Tupperware type containers to glass jars? Glass jars make for great food storage in the fridge as you can see at a glance what’s inside the jar – helping you to reduce food waste at the same time.
You can even freeze food in glass jars – try leaving an inch at the top to allow space for the food to expand when freezing.

2. If you are looking for a plastic-free alternative to cling film there are several options.Beeswax wraps make great food savers. Simply warm them in your hands and mould over your bowl or round cheese or sandwiches etc.
Buzzcloth makes some good beeswax food wraps: www.buzzcloth.com as do
Lakeland and the Beeswax wrap company www.beeswaxwraps.co.uk
They may seem costly but of course last for up to three years.

One of the good features of the environmental campaign is the amount of information available online which is both interesting and very educational!
