(All soft furnishings need to have relevant fire safety labels attached)

MAP Methodist Asylum Project:

Furniture, household goods, clothing.

For Refugees and those seeking asylum who come here with very little and need the basic necessities to live and eventually set up home. (See list of what is needed below)

Clothing

All items must be clean and in good condition. We do not have capacity to launder or repair items. Storage facilities are also limited, so we cannot store across the seasons.

We look for seasonally appropriate clothing (daywear) & shoes for men, women, & children & in particular

  • Clothing suitable for young adult men and women
  • Trainers & sensible shoes particularly for men
  • Jeans & trousers
  • Warm coats and jackets (during winter only)
  • New underwear & socks
  • Baby and children’s clothing particularly for girls
  • School uniform basics (without logos please)
  • Suitcases

Sorry, but we cannot accept: wellington boots, 2nd hand socks & underwear

Household Goods

Push Chairs

Bedding: Duvets, pillows, sheets, pillowcases & duvet covers

Cot bedding

Crockery, cutlery, glasses, mugs & cups

Cooking pans and pots

Cookware, kitchenware and kitchen utensils, Knives

Household basics (bins, ironing boards, washing baskets etc)

Sorry, but we cannot accept: electrical items, bric a brac

Furnitures

We aim to offer core items of furniture to those setting up home in the area for the first time. Items must be clean and in good condition. All upholstered items must have a label still attached confirm that they comply with fire retardance regulations. We look for:

Sofas and suites

Dining tables and dining chairs

Chests of drawers

Bedside cabinets

Beds and clean mattresses

Wardrobes

Bookshelves

Coffee tables

We have limited storage space, so cannot always accept donations even if we would like to. We can also sometimes collect items. If you want to discuss a possible donation please call our Project Manager Ailsa Adamson on 07970192841 or email MAPMbro@gmail.com

Frade Furniture

You can arrange a free collection of your pre-loved household furniture and electricals. They are sold on at affordable prices with further discounts for individuals in receipt of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit.

DONATE A BIKE! Middlesbrough Cycle Centre on: 01642 219620

Even if your bike is broken or a little worse for wear, they will repair and recycle it, and find a new home in the community or loan it free of charge.

Food and toiletries can be left at the John Paul Centre for the Mary Thompson Fund weekday mornings  between 10am and 12noon.

Food can also be left at Open Door North East

“Many of our clients are without any form of financial support and have no recourse to public funds. They are left destitute but often cannot be returned to their country of origin.

We provide weekly food parcels for up to 50 individuals a week, providing basic foodstuffs and essential items for those who cannot get support from anywhere else. If you would be able to buy an extra few items during your weekly shop that could be donated to Open Door we would be extremely grateful. You could drop it in to the office between 10-4pm on Monday - Wednesday.”
